Jamie Foxx was struck in the mouth with a glass during a ‘physical altercation’ at his birthday party.
The 57-year-old American actor and comedian is now recovering after the incident at Mr Chow restaurant in Beverly Hills, California.
A representative for the star confirmed he ‘had to get stitches’, telling NBC News that someone at another table ‘threw a glass that hit him in the mouth’.
The matter is now ‘in law enforcement’s hands’.
On Friday, shortly after 10pm local time, Beverly Hills Police Department received a call notifying them of a ‘possible assault with a deadly weapon’.
Cops arrived at the restaurant and concluded that the report was ‘unfounded’.
Instead, they determined that the altercation was ‘between parties’ and after conducting a preliminary investigation, they filed a report ‘documenting the battery’.
No arrests have been made.
BHPD’s press release does not name Jamie, but police sources have confirmed to TMZ that he was involved.
An onlooker also told the outlet that they witnessed customers at another table ‘being rude and vulgar to Jamie’.
He reportedly ‘asked them to stop, since his family was present’, which is when a fellow diner allegedly launched a glass at his face.
Jamie had previously been photographed arriving at the establishment with his daughters Corinne and Anelise, and his ex-partner Kristin Grannis.
Following the incident, Jamie took to social media with somewhat of a cryptic message.
While he didn’t address the matter explicitly, he wrote: ‘The devil is a lie. Can’t win here… thank you to everybody that pray and check on me… when your light is shining bright… they try to bring you darkness … but they don’t know that you’re built for it… the lights have been shining bright…’
He also thanked fans for their support on his latest Netflix special, What Had Happened Was.
He wrote: ‘huge thank yous to everyone that have watched and been inspired by ‘What Had Happened Was’… number 1 on @netflix if you haven’t checked it out please go check it out it’s from my heart and my soul… [sic]’
In the show, Jamie speaks for the first time at length about suffering a brain bleed last year, which led to a stroke.
At the time, he underwent surgery at an Atlanta hospital before undergoing rehabilitation at a Chicago facility.
The ordeal struck in April 2023, with details previously withheld as the world was left wondering what exactly happened.
Jamie initially said he had ‘been to hell and back’ with the medical complications, firstly falling ill with a ‘bad headache’ while filming the Netflix spy action film Back In Action alongside Cameron Diaz.
After going to see a doctor, the Oscar winner was given a steroid injection, which led to him feeling fatigued.
It was then that his sister suspected something was seriously wrong, taking him to the hospital to get checked out.
Speaking in his comedy special, Jamie tells the crowd: ‘She didn’t know anything about Piedmont Hospital, but she had a hunch that some angels were in there.
‘Atlanta saved my life.’
When he went in for his surgery, Jamie’s sister ‘knelt down outside the operating room and prayed the whole time’.
While medical professionals ‘didn’t find’ the cause of the brain bleed, they diagnosed him with a stroke.
He has zero memory of the first 20 days post-surgery, declaring what happened a ‘mystery’ still, but he praised his family for taking care of him and protecting him from prying eyes.
