Asda and Sainsbury’s have given a final deadline warning to shoppers buying Christmas food in store and online.

Asda has announced that it will be slashing prices of festive vegetables from Thursday to just 15p, with the cheap prices only available for a limited period.

Shoppers will be able to pick up 2kg potatoes (currently £135), 1kg carrots (currently 69p), 500g parsnips (currently 75p), 500g sprouts (currently 85p) and 360g broccoli (currently 79p) in store and online for a mere 15p from December 19 until December 24, while stocks last.

It means customers can bag all of the key Christmas dinner trimmings for a fraction of the price, slashing £3.68 off the final bill.

Asda shoppers can also pick up a British Whole Fresh Turkey for £3/kg (cheaper than in 2023) in stores from December 19.

The supermarket chain is also reminding shoppers that have been saving money in their Asda Rewards Christmas Saver Cashpot that they need to convert their savings into vouchers before the deadline of December 31 or they will expire. Once you’ve redeemed your voucher, you have 90 days to spend it.

In an email to customers, the Asda Rewards team said: “You can convert your Christmas Saver Cashpot into a Voucher(s) and scan on your Christmas shopping.

“If you’re shopping online, a converted voucher will automatically be taken off – so make sure you only convert it when you need it. Your Voucher can be used at the same time as a regular Cashpot Voucher.

“Your Christmas Cashpot Savings will expire at 11.59pm on 31/12/2024. Online orders must be placed before 31/12/2024 and not amended after this date.”

Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s shoppers have been warned the last chance to get food to order for Christmas is now just two days away.

Customers must place their order by midnight on Monday, December 16 to lock in their turkey for Christmas Day.

Hundreds of food items are available for a Christmas Day meal or Boxing Day buffet, but shoppers need to get their orders in quick to ensure it can be delivered in time for the big day.

Among the options is a Christmas dinner in a box for £45, a cooked turkey breast topped with stuffing and bacon lattice for £33, a pair of partridges for £28 and a British beef wellington for £40.

Of course there’s also a wide selection of party foods for Boxing Day including a cheeseboard platter for £30, a sausage roll garland for £9.50, a millionaires yule log for £11 and a snowman cheesecake for £7.
