Fearne Cotton said she had a screaming match with Jesse Wood before the pair decided to split amid previous difficulties in their marriage.
The pair announced yesterday that they are separating after 10 years together.
The TV presenter confirmed the news with a statement to her 3.9million Instagram followers: ‘It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jesse and I are ending our marriage.’
She added: ‘Our priority has been, and will always be, our children.
‘We ask that you respect the privacy of our family at this time.’
Fearne, 43, married Jesse, 48, who is the son of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, in July 2014.
Their intimate London ceremony was attended by celebrities and colleagues, including Holly Willoughby, McBusted, Keith Lemon, and Denise Van Outen and was much talked about at the time.
But its now come to light that the couple have been going through ‘rough patches’ for some years, as revealed by a resurfaced column Fearne wrote for Red Magazine in 2019.
She wrote: ‘Love takes hard work – and no one wants to hear that.’
‘This year, Jesse and I hit a rough patch – he was away, touring relentlessly, [with his band, Reef].
‘I was trying to keep my own career going while looking after our kids and we were both desperately clinging on to our marriage.’
Fearne then shared that the pair had fought in a local park, a row that ended with both of them in tears.
She continued: ‘In the midst of this gargantuan row, I think we both wondered where the love had gone and worried that it might not come back.’
The former Top Of The Pops host met Jesse on a girls’ holiday to Ibiza in 2011, where they were introduced by a mutual friend.
They welcomed their first child, a son named Rex, in February 2013, and, in February 2015, Fearne announced that she was expecting a second child, which contributed to her reasons for leaving BBC Radio 1.
In September of that year, she announced that she had given birth to a daughter, Honey.
Fearne and Jesse celebrated a decade of marriage this summer with a touching Instagram post in which they recreated a shot from their wedding day.
Alongside the picture Fearne wrote: ‘If it’s good enough for the Beckhams.
It’s our wedding anniversary too.
’10 years today. And we are back in our wedding outfits (not purple) and @jessejameswood can’t locate the shoes.’
The news of the pair’s split comes after Fearne recently revealed she was undergoing surgery to remove tumours on her jaw.
