George was best known for appearing on Channel 4’s Gogglebox alongside his mum Linda, 74,  and step-dad Pete, who died aged 71 following bowel cancer in 2021.

And Linda also revealed she suffered a stroke six months after George’s death and believes it was due to stress and heartbreak.

She said: ‘I’m so lucky that my friends were here and they got me to the hospital. On the tests, they couldn’t find where it had come from, but I think it’s the shock of George. There’s no bigger stress than what I went through.’

The grieving mother also admitted she has been watching old episodes of Gogglebox to help her remember her son.

Linda also took her granddaughter and Amelie’s mum on holiday to Lanzarote this summer as she confessed George still loved Gemma and he would always praise her as being the best mum in the world.

Speaking a month after his death she confessed: ‘I’m devastated – he was like my best friend.

‘He had the best heart in the world – he was generous, funny and kind, with bundles of charm and buckets of personality.

‘He did more in his 40 years than people do in 90 – he’s even had dinner with the Prince of Dubai.

‘He was crazy, but after coming out of showbiz, he couldn’t get his life back together. He just couldn’t get over the death of Pete.

‘I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and he took it worse than me. He was a mummy’s boy. He came to celebrity overnight but didn’t really want to be – he was just normal.

‘But it allowed him to do charity work – anytime anyone contacted him about charity work, he prioritised it.’

The Essex family left the Gogglebox sofa in 2014 when George broke the show’s rules by entering the Celebrity Big Brother house – then on rival Channel 5.

Just four days ago, George posted a beaming selfie on Facebook in which he shared that he had purchased a gym membership.

He captioned the photo of him sweating alongside another picture of a gym card: ‘Done. Full membership.’

His tragic death comes less than three years after his stepfather Pete died at the age of 71.

Pete’s beloved wife Linda revealed that he had been diagnosed with the disease earlier in the year but despite a recent operation to remove the tumour, was told he only had six months to live.

Tragically, he died just days after the prognosis, with Linda, also 71, telling The Sun at the time: ‘Pete was a lovely man and I was so lucky to have him for 25 years.

‘I said to him, ‘We’ve not only been 25 years, it’s been day and night with each other’. He was my life.’

A statement issued on behalf of the family at the time said: ‘We are deeply saddened to announce that Gogglebox star Pete McGarry passed away at the age of 71 this weekend with his family by his side after a short illness.
