In a show that featured reveals for The Witcher 4, Borderlands 4, an Okami sequel and somehow, more Elden Ring content, you were going to have to finish big at this year’s Game Awards. And in this business, that means debuting a new Naughty Dog game that is not a Last of Us remaster. That game is Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet.
We’ve heard that Naughty Dog has had a sci-fi game in the works for a long while now. This has reportedly been in development since 2020, but surprisingly little leaked about it, and that’s led to this first trailer, which is not just a cinematic, and running in the game in real-time:
The game stars Uncharted, You and The 100 actress Tati Gabrielle as Jordan, and here’s the official description of the game:
“Set thousands of years in the future, Intergalactic puts players into the role of Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.”
We see a brief glimpse of one of Jordan’s targets who is very clearly actor Kumail Nanjiani. And the connection was a bit wobbly and she has an eyepatch but I am maybe 40% sure that’s Sigourney Weaver on that other end of that call with Jordan.
We only see a few seconds of actual combat, but despite being third person, this seems to be a significant departure from cover shooters like Uncharted and The Last of Us, a molten sword leaping melee fight against a mech sure is not their usual. I’m sure there are guns, but it seems they want to take the action part of their gameplay to an entirely different plane.
There is not even a release year for Intergalactic, indicating that despite being worked on for four years already, it will likely not be until at least 2026 that we see it released. And with schedules the way they are, maybe even that’s optimistic.
Naughty Dog simply…does not fail to deliver. Even if Intergalactic is not relying on any of their beloved franchises, the goal is obviously to recreate the magic of when Uncharted or The Last of Us burst onto the scene and became instant industry icons. Hopefully they can find similar luck with Intergalactic, and that was a very cool debut spot.
