Ukrainian spies ‘gun down top Russian missile scientist in Moscow’

Ukrainian security operatives have claimed responsibility for “eliminating” a top Russian missile scientist responsible for modifying cruise missiles to make them more deadly.

Footage shared via Twitter today appears to show the aftermath of a deadly attack which claimed the life of Mikhail Shatsky in Moscow. The brief clip appears to show forensics officers arriving on the scene.

A post by Ukrainian journalist Alexander Nevzorov on the Telegram app referred to Kyrylo Budanov, Ukraine’s secret service chief.

He commented: “Budanov has long arms.

“It seems that none of those guilty of the genocide of Ukrainians will die a natural death.”

Mr Nevorov added: “Today, the GUR forces in Moscow eliminated a particularly harmful criminal – Deputy General Designer, Head of the Software Department of the Mars Design Bureau Mikhail Shatsky.

“He was involved in upgrading the X-59 cruise missiles to the level of the X-69, introduced new UAVs and is guilty of the deaths of thousands of innocent Ukrainians.”

Shatsky was a prominent figure in aerospace engineering, playing a crucial role in developing software solutions and technical systems for Mars exploration.

His expertise is key to creating the infrastructure that could support human missions to Mars, focusing on integrating complex systems to ensure both efficiency and safety in extraterrestrial environments.

At the Mars Design Bureau, Shatsky’s work primarily involves overseeing the software development necessary for the design and operations of Mars exploration technologies. The bureau is known for its cutting-edge projects related to Mars colonisation and space mission planning, with Shatsky’s leadership helping guide these projects forward.

However, his apparent assassination reflects a belief by Ukraine that his skills were directed towards weapons being used on their country.
