The cinema chain revealed the fresh closure plans after formally completing a restructuring plan it launched in the summer to shore up its finances.

It closed five sites after announcing the overhaul in July and has now announced it will also close six more locations, including in Middlesbrough. Castleford, Leigh, Northampton, Poole and Weymouth are the other sites.

Cineworld in Middlesbrough has operated for 23 years and is located on Marton Road.

The leisure firm has not disclosed how many jobs will be impacted by the closures and has not said when the sites will close yet.

“This milestone sets the stage for a brighter future, enabling Cineworld to continue sharing joy in communities across the UK for many years to come.”
