British actor Paapa Essiedu is thought to have been offered the role of Professor Severus Snape in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series.
The “I May Destroy You” star is being eyed to portray the iconic Hogwarts potions master, though no deal is currently in place.
The character was previously portrayed by the late Alan Rickman in Warner Bros’ film series throughout the 2000s.

“We appreciate that such a high-profile series will draw a lot of rumour and speculation,” a spokesperson for HBO said in a statement.
The network emphasised they would “only confirm details as we make our way through pre-production and finalise deals.”
