Declan Donnelly rushed to I’m A Celeb medics after horror spider bite

Must read

Declan Donnelly has been rushed to medics backstage on I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! after being bitten by a spider in the Australian jungle.

Dec, 49, had to be checked over by specialists behind the scenes of the ITV show to make sure the bite wasn’t poisonous.

Opening up about the horror incident on Instagram Live, his co-host Ant McPartlin said: “We’ve had quite a lot of drama not only on the show, but off the show as well, because Dec had a spider on his neck and was bitten by a spider and the medic was called in to have a look.”

The spider first appeared on a script before leaping to Dec’s neck.

Thankfully Dec was ready to make light of the situation, quipping: “The medic said I was lucky to be alive. If I wasn’t so fit and healthy, and masculine, I might not have survived.”

Ant fired back: “No, she didn’t, she said it was a jumping spider and it was absolutely fine.”

Bites from jumping spiders are rare, but they’re thankfully not venomous. Side effects can include redness, itching, stinging and swelling.

Jumping spiders can jump between 10 and 40 times their own body length, and are one of around 10,000 spider species in Australia.

It’s not the first time medics have had to rush into camp this year either, as one Bushtucker Trial had to be halted so medics could rush in to help Tulisa Contostavlos in an unaired segment.

The N-Dubz star panicked when she thought an insect had crawled into her ear canal, with an insider telling The Sun: “Mid-way through the trial, the show medics rushed in to help. Tulisa was convinced something was in her ear – she wasn’t sure if it was a cockroach, cricket, or fly – and had to have a syringe wash. She carried on after that, but she was horrified.”

Meanwhile, Dean McCullough has claimed a trench foot epidemic is making its way around the sodden camp.
