Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin‘s daughter Apple, 20, has faced backlash after a video from her debutante ball in Paris went viral. The exclusive event took place last Saturday at the luxurious Hotel Shangri-La, where rooms cost $1,000 per night, and saw Apple as one of 20 young women making their high society debuts at the esteemed Le Bal des Débutantes.

Dressed in an elegant strapless sky-blue gown from Valentino’s Spring 2025 line, Apple was the epitome of grace that evening. However, controversy sparked when footage showed her interrupting another debutante’s photoshoot.

In the video, Apple is seen entering the shot from behind, hands on hips, pushing the other girl aside to strike several poses. The displaced debutante gave a nervous laugh while Apple continued to dominate the camera.

After her impromptu photo session, Apple stepped away, nearly colliding with another debutante ready for her photo. Social media users criticised her actions, with comments like “How obnoxious and entitled she is,” and “Oh wow, why did Apple do that? Let the other girl have a moment.”

Others noted, “Not good behaviour for such an event,” and some even likened her to Regina George, the iconic Mean Girls character known for her queen bee antics, reports the Express US.

While critics were quick to comment, some defended Apple’s behaviour at the prestigious event, suggesting that the girls might actually be friends.

One onlooker wrote: “That looked obnoxious, but she probably was joking,” while another commented: “Oh gosh they’re obviously friends and the girl in black was stepping out of frame anyways. She’s acting her age.”

Gwyneth previously praised her daughter Apple’s robust self-esteem and its impact on tackling gender inequality. “They have, and I mean this word in the best possible way, a sense of ‘entitlement’ that’s beautiful,” she told People magazine.

“It’s not spoiled, [they] are here for what the boys are going to get too,” she explained. “I find it very uplifting and heartening that we all seem to be going in this direction together.”

Gwyneth attended the prestigious event with her former husband and Coldplay singer Chris Martin, their son Moses, 18, and her mother Blythe Danner.

Ophélie Renouard’s elite ball is renowned for its selective guest list based on attractiveness, intelligence, and family connections, and also serves as a fundraiser for two children’s health charities, often featuring European royals and daughters of Tinseltown titans.

During the time-honored event, every debutante is accompanied by a ‘chevalier’, usually a man with a distinguished background. Apple had the privilege of being escorted by Count Leo Cosima Henckel von Donnersmarck.
