Now that the Silent Hill 2 Remake is here, Bloober Team confirms that it is doing pre-production work on a brand-new game. After working with Konami on SH2, Bloober currently has multiple unannounced projects in the works, and this pre-production phase could refer to either of them. That’s without mentioning Bloober’s upcoming first original IP Cronos: The New Dawn, which is scheduled for next year.
After Silent Hill 2, developer Bloober Team certainly has a lot going on. The studio behind The Medium and Layers of Fear is already well known for its survival horror games, and we can expect even more of them over the next few years. Now, according to Bloober Team game director and designer Wojciech Piejko, one of these games is well on its way.
“Within Bloober Team, we have two production teams. Both teams operate independently, however, the whole team is sharing the experience of working on previous projects like The Medium, Observer, Layers of Fear, Silent Hill 2, Blair Witch, etc,” Piejko explains in an interview with MP1st. “And all I can say today is that after the completion of work on Silent Hill 2, the team will conduct the pre-production work on a new project.”
This “new project” could be one of a few things. For starters, Bloober Team signed a licensing and publishing agreement with Skybound to create a game codenamed Project R, which will be based on one of its IPs. Skybound, founded by comic author Robert Kirkman, is known for series like The Walking Dead and Invincible, but there’s no telling what Bloober will pull on just yet.
Then there’s Project M, which Bloober Team is working on in “cooperation with the world’s best game creators for Nintendo platforms.” This game will be “significantly smaller” than the developer’s other games, although little else is known about the project at this time. Project M was originally being developed by Serial Cleaners studio Draw Distance, but earlier this year Bloober Team revealed it was terminating that contract and doing something else with the game.
As for what some of the devs behind Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 Remake are up to, alongside this secretive project, Piejko says they’re moving on to the studio’s other announced game, Cronos: The New Dawn.
“I’m really proud of what the audio team accomplished in Silent Hill 2 Remake and I can confirm that the same team is now working on Cronos and we can’t wait to share more about the sound of Cronos in the future.”
Set for release in 2025, Cronos: The New Dawn is Bloober Team’s first original survival horror game, set against the backdrop of a “twisted time travel story.” In a world where Eastern European brutalism meets retro-futurist technology, Cronos is set in two distinct periods. In the past, you’ll experience an event that forever changes the trajectory of humanity, and when in the future you’ll be forced to survive in the ravaged wastelands filled with untold horrors.
