With Patch 8 being the last “major” patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios appears to be going full steam ahead on its next project in 2025. While the new game won’t be released until 2028 at the absolute earliest, the new RPG already has the team “buzzing” with excitement.

Baldur’s Gate 3 successor is already exciting

Celebrating the recent nomination for Best Community Support on Baldur’s Gate 3, Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke explained that its been hard for the team to “keep delivering on something that’s already out there” while also working on something new and exciting.

With Larian confirmed to not be working on a BG3 expansion or Baldur’s Gate 4, the studio could be returning to its amazing Divinity IP. If not, the studio could be working on something entirely new which is just as, if not more, exciting.

“I was on a holiday when this was announced but really happy to see the work the post-launch teams have been doing recognized with this nomination,” the Larian CEO said on Twitter. “It’s very hard to keep on delivering on something that’s already out there while the entire studio is buzzing with all the new exciting stuff.”

Despite the studio working on such an exciting future project, the Baldur’s Gate 3 team certainly isn’t shirking. The team has already added a bunch of extra evil endings to the game as well as official mod support for all platforms, and Patch 8 is set to bring new subclasses, a photo mode and cross-play to the game next year.

“They’ve been doing it with lots of passion and it’s heartwarming to see people take notice,” Vincke explained to fans online.

As for Baldur’s Gate 3, there is still hope of some extra updates in the future. While none will be as major as Patch 8—at least that’s what the team is saying—some bug fixes and maybe small pieces of content will likely come to the game. After all, it seems Larian just can’t stop tinkering with BG3, and neither can we.
