Public support for Labour’s economic policies has dropped sharply in the wake of the budget, new figures show, as businesses warn they expect to see a decline in orders and sales in the coming months.
In figures released on Monday, YouGov polling for The Times found that the number of voters who think Labour is handling the economy badly has increased by almost ten percentage points in less than a month.
Fewer than a quarter of voters think that the government is handling the economy well, while the number of people who think that the budget was unfair has increased from 34 per cent to 50 per cent.
The polling comes as figures from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) show a decline in business
