Fortnite is on the verge of launching its much-anticipated Chapter 6 after a Juice WRLD concert tomorrow. Now, it’s fully rolling out promotion for the chapter with a new cinematic trailer which has just launched, alongside a separate gameplay trailer.
The trailer shows off the very, very Japanese-themed chapter full of landmarks that represent different eras of the country, and a battle pass full of ninja, samurai and “Oni” demons. A big focus of this spot is a 2v2 battle between those groups including a hulking demonic samurai which appears to be a map boss.
One signature of this chapter and season is that there are a large number of giant world boss entities, some you may fight, some that may just be part of the landscape like a giant turtle with a POI on its back. Most notably, there is a giant version of Godzilla roaming around the map, and it seems like he will be a fixture rather than some sort of specific event. There are leaks that King Kong may end up showing up at some point as well down the line.
Looking ahead to the future of the season, there is supposed to be a large-scale collaboration with Demon Slayer that adds new demon-fight events to the map and elemental powered masks to find and use, but that’s not shown off here yet.
What I’m curious about is whether this entire chapter is meant to be Japanese themed rather than just this season, given that it seems the map was really designed from the ground up to be different eras of Japan, rather than just a few POIs that will be replaced. Are you really going to get rid of the giant turtle? Mt. Fuji? Come on.
There is a second minute-long gameplay trailer that shows off the new map and combat in action and features other skins like armored Baymax from Big Hero 6, and a fight against a disembodied demon. Again, this entire map seems way, way to expansion to not make this an entirely Japanese-adjacent Chapter, which will be cool to watch unfold. Players will be able to play this themselves when Chapter 6 season 1 launches on Sunday, December 1.
