A major systems failure resulted in grounded flights and pilots unable to communicate with British Airways in the latest humiliating IT meltdown for the UK’s flag carrier.
Thousands of passengers were unable to check in for flights after the airline’s website and app crashed. While the restoration of systems had begun on Monday night, knock-on problems were expected into Tuesday.
Technical issues were first reported at about 5pm and systems were down for two hours before their restoration began. A source told The Times that the issue was “affecting multiple systems”. The cause was not known on Monday night.
