NetEase Games has announced its superhero-focused take on Overwatch, named Marvel Rivals, will release early next month with an impressive launch roster of 33 playable characters. 27 have been revealed so far, leaving a further six to be confirmed for the 6th December 2024 launch. All will be playable for free on release.
The news comes from a new “Dev Vision” video uploaded over the weekend, where it’s stated the game will begin with a shorter Season 0 phase that’ll tide it over until the proper Season 1 unveiling in January 2025. Season 0 will be called Dooms Rise, and given the shorter nature compared to the main three-month seasons, it’ll be priced accordingly for the Battle Pass and any other contents. Nine maps — eight for Quick Match and one for Conquest — will be live at launch.
So far, the following 26 superheroes have been confirmed for the Marvel Rivals release date:
1. Adam Warlock
2. Black Panther
3. Captain America
4. Doctor Strange
5. Groot
6. Hela
7. Hulk
8. Iron Man
9. Jeff the Land Shark
10. Loki
11. Luna Snow
12. Magik
13. Magneto
14. Mantis
15. Moon Knight
16. Namor
17. Peni Parker
18. Psylocke
19. Punisher
20. Rocket Raccoon
21. Scarlet Witch
22. Spider-Man
23. Star-Lord
24. Storm
25. Thor
26. Venom
27. Winter Solider
It’s promised there won’t be any pay-to-win elements in the game, and monetisation will come from the usual sources: a Battle Pass and in-game store packing bonus skins and cosmetic gear. The early December period marks a busy time for new live-service titles, as Infinity Nikki is out just 24 hours earlier. Which of the two games is more your style? Let us know in the comments below.
