Council plans to reduce a city’s bin collections to once a month in a bid to cut costs has prompted fears of a spike in fly-tipping and “stinky bins” among residents.

Bristol city council could abandon fortnightly collections for black bins and weekly collections for recycling under plans revealed in a leaked document obtained by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The document states that Bristol — thought to be the first city council to put forward such plans — needs to make savings as waste costs rise.
