Cop29 has been criticised for time-wasting and catering to fossil fuel lobbyists
Researchers are warning that big Conference of the Parties climate summits are no longer fit for purpose, as Cop29—currently underway in Baku, Azerbaijan—has become mired in controversy.
The criticism follows reports that Cop29 is being used to conduct deals on fossil fuel production, while Azerbaijan president and host, Ilham Aliyev, called oil and gas a “gift from God” during his keynote speech to welcome delegates.
