President Putin came so close to using nuclear weapons in Ukraine two years ago that crisis meetings were held over how a potential fallout could affect Britain, according to an updated edition of Liz Truss’s biography.

The former prime minister spent her last days in office in October 2022 studying weather maps and preparing for cases of radiation poisoning if Russia dropped a nuclear bomb, according to Out of the Blue.

The book claims that Truss spent “numerous hours studying satellite weather data and wind directions” over fears the “wrong weather patterns” could have a “direct fallout effect on Britain”, according to The Sun.

In October 2022, Ben Wallace, then defence secretary, travelled to Washington to discuss the threat that President Putin, could detonate a nuclear device in Ukraine or over the Black Sea
