New Zealand singer Lorde celebrated her 28th birthday in true Bra-style in New York over the weekend, capping off a year of partying with her friend and Grammy-nominated artist Charli XCX.
On Sunday, the Royals hitmaker shared an artistic flat lay of her coffee table to Instagram Stories featuring bottles of hard liquor, ash trays, a crystal bowl of cigarettes, a ceramic dish which appeared to be full of joints, chewing gum and empty wine glasses.
The drug and alcohol paraphernalia was artistically styled and laid out in the same method that social media influencers use to photograph their restaurant meals.
Also on the table were boxes of matches, a lighter and half-drunk glasses of gin and tonics.
It is legal for adults 21 and older to possess up to 85gm of cannabis and up to 24 grams of concentrated cannabis outside your home for personal use in New York.
It is also legal to store up to 141gm of cannabis in your home.
In a live video shared in Lorde’s next post, the singer beamed as a friend handed her a birthday cake lit with a singular tall candle.
Lorde, real name Ella Marija Lani Yelich-O’Connor, wore a simple black tube top and silk grey pants for the low-key celebration in New York City with friends.

In the next photo she shared, taken by GQ Magazine fashion writer Samuel Hine, Lorde was seen in a blurry candid shot smoking a cigarette and blowing smoke out of her window.
The Royals favourite bought her two-bedroom 112-square-metre New York condo for US$3.5million (AUD$5.3million).
The rarely seen pop star burst back into the limelight in August, when she was seen partying hard at UK singer Charli XCX’s birthday alongside Billie Eilish, Glen Powell, Nelly Furtardo, Euphoria actress Barbie Ferreira, and Anya Taylor Joy and Kim Petras.
Last month, in an exclusive interview with New Zealand-born music journalist Zane Lowe, Charli XCX opened up about her fraught friendship with Lorde and their Girl, So Confusing Remix.
‘I was ready for her to never speak to me again,’ Charli admitted when she released the song about her beef with Lorde.

‘She actually suggested [doing a response] to the record first.’
She also revealed, ‘We are partying as much as it looks like.’
Charli also sent fans wild by bringing her out on stage at Madison Square Garden in New York City for a surprise duet.
The English singer, 32, who is currently touring with Aussie star Troye Sivan for their Sweat tour and will headline Laneway Festival Down Under in 2025, surprised a roaring crowd by enlisting Lorde to sing with her.

Since she released ‘Brat’ on June 7, the album — and its electric aesthetic — has dominated pop culture at all levels, from underground clubs to mini crossword clues.
Charli described the brat ethos as ‘me, my flaws, my f— ups, my ego all rolled into one.’
Recently, Collins Dictionary announced ‘brat’ as its 2024 word of the year, defining it as ‘characterised by a confident, independent, and hedonistic attitude.’
It’s an ethos that Lorde clearly adopted for her at-home birthday photoshoot, or is perhaps toying with her rumoured forthcoming album.
Lorde was just 17-years-old when she won a Grammy for Royals.
