Topline

Kate, the Princess of Wales, appeared alongside the Royal Family as they appeared at a Remembrance Day event in London on Saturday, marking the latest public engagement for Kate since completing chemotherapy earlier this year.

Key Facts

Kate joined her husband Prince William, King Charles III and other Royal Family members at the Festival of Remembrance at Royal Albert Hall in London.

The event, held annually, honors fallen service personnel during World War I and World War II and precedes another ceremony at the Cenotaph war memorial on Sunday, where Charles will lay a wreath.

Queen Camilla was not present during Saturday’s events, after an earlier statement by Buckingham Palace indicated she was recovering from a “seasonal chest infection” and was advised not to attend by her doctor.

Surprising Fact

This is Kate’s second official public engagement since completing chemotherapy in September. Kate made a surprise appearance with William in a visit to Southport last month, after Kate reportedly said she wanted to show “support, empathy and compassion” to the local community after three local children were killed in a knife attack.

Key Background

Kate, 42, announced in March she was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer and would undergo a “course of preventative chemotherapy.” She completed her treatment on Sept. 9 and said she was entering a “new phase of recovery” and would be “undertaking a few more public engagements” in the coming months. It was expected she would make her first official public engagement during Remembrance Day events this month before her annual Christmas carol concert, according to the BBC. She made two unofficial appearances, however: In June while celebrating Charles’ birthday and at Wimbledon the next month. Buckingham Palace said in February that Charles, 75, was diagnosed with a “form of cancer” that was “caught early” after a prostate procedure. The type of cancer was also not disclosed.
