Catalan weather agency Meteocat shared footage of the flash flooding in Girona, reporting intense and continuous rainfall in the area.
Rainfall has exceeded 100 litres per square meter in the affected area, sweeping away parked vehicles and causing local streams.
The severe weather conditions have sparked significant concerns among residents and officials in the coastal community.
“This is how the CadaquĆ©s stream goes down after the intense and continuous rain this morning, where there is likely to have been more than 100mm of rainfall,” Meteocat stated.
Local residents took to social media to express their alarm at the severe situation unfolding in their town.
“The situation is very serious in CadaquĆ©s. Dozens of cars have been swept away by the swollen stream in the town, blocking up the bridge,” one resident posted on X, formerly Twitter.
The resident emphasised the unprecedented nature of the disaster, stating: “It’s been many years since something like this happened in CadaquĆ©s.”
