Three people have been charged in relation to the death of the One Direction singer Liam Payne, Argentinian prosecutors said on Thursday, after the superstar fell from his hotel balcony last month.

Payne had traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant in his system when he died, authorities said in a statement. Those charged are someone who was close to Payne, a hotel employee and a suspected drug dealer, prosecutors added.

The singer died on 16 October after falling from the third-floor balcony in the up-market, touristy Palermo district of Buenos Aires. According to the autopsy, Payne died from multiple injuries as well as both internal and external bleeding caused by the fall. His body was found in the hotel’s internal courtyard.

Police later raided the Casa Sur hotel and seized items including computer hard drives and footage from hotel cameras.
