Queen unwell with chest infection, says Buckingham Palace

The Queen has pulled out of royal engagements this week after being diagnosed with a chest infection following a long overseas tour.

Camilla has been advised to rest for a “short period” and is currently at home. The 77-year-old has withdrawn from several engagements later this week, and will be represented by the Duchess of Gloucester at a Westminster Abbey wreath-laying.

Buckingham Palace said she hopes to be well enough to attend Remembrance events, including the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph, this weekend.

A palace spokesman said: “Her Majesty the Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest.

“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.

“She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister, posted a get well message on social media, writing: “On behalf of the whole country, I wish Her Majesty the Queen a speedy recovery.”
