No referrals over Kyran Durnin’s school attendance says Tusla chief

Earlier this year, when Tusla was engaging with another case, staff became aware of information that “caused concern to us in relation to Kyran’s whereabouts”, Ms Duggan told the programme.

“At that point then, we would have linked with An Garda Síochána [Irish police] with that information.”

Ms Duggan said Tusla has only had engagement with the family since April 2024 when the new information was made available.

Last week, Tusla announced an internal review of its interactions with Kyran’s family would not be made public at this time.

Ms Duggan said this decision was taken after consultation with gardaí.

“When our review is published, obviously there will be reference to any engagement that we had with Kyran, with his family or with other members of his family,” she added.

“But at the moment, I can’t confirm the details around that because of the live garda investigation.”
