Strictly Come Dancing fans have questioned whether Wynne Evans may have broken the rules of the competition.

The opera singer, 52, is best known for playing Gio Compario in the Go Compare insurance adverts, which he first appeared on in 2009.

He has also released two number one classical musical albums, hosts a programme on BBC Radio Wales and won Celebrity MasterChef last year.

Wynne is also currently competing on Strictly, where he’s been paired with Katya Jones.

On this week’s show, which was a special Icon themed episode, the pair performed a rumba to Shirley Bassey’s This Is My Life.

Ahead of hitting the dancefloor Wynne said the song ‘hits me in the heart’.

At the end of the emotional routine, the singer took over from the band and sung the final line, sparking a standing ovation from the audience.

Speaking to him straight after, host Tess Daly exclaimed: ‘You blew the hair off the back of my arms there. That was something. We know Wynne can sing but how was that rumba?’

Responding, Anton Du Beke said it was ‘the best ending to any number I’ve ever seen in my entire life’.

‘That was unbelievable. I loved that,’ he added.

However, some watching on at home were less impressed.

‘Second week in a row Katya danced around a barely moving Wynne…and singing is not dancing,’ Vicki posted on X.

‘Wynne singing over and over again in a DANCING competition really was not required,’ S shared.

‘I’m sorry this isn’t a singing competition. How is it fair that Wynne gets to sing at the end?? always giving him new rules & special treatment,’ Katie added.

Others said him singing ‘didn’t seem fair’.

When receiving feedback from the judges, Shirley told him to stay on top of his ‘spatial awareness’.

‘Apart from that I want you to carry on as you are because your technique is marvellous and it’s going beautifully in the right direction. Keep going,’ she added.

Although Craig Revel Horwood gave some criticisms, he did say he ‘loved the song and love you’.

Before receiving the scores, Wynne joked: ‘Can we just pretend it’s a song contest instead.’

He then received a total score of 30.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Sunday at 7.20pm on BBC One.
