The Great British Bake Off spoilers follow.

The Great British Bake Off has aired its sixth elimination for the 2024 series, with fan-favourite Nelly exiting the tent.

Tuesday’s (October 29) episode saw the remaining eight contestants take on Autumn Week, with the usual three rounds of Signature, Technical and Showstopper.

With it all coming down to the final challenge, Sumayah was awarded Star Baker following a Showstopper that caused Paul to give her a ‘Hollywood handshake’.

Then, sadly, Noel had to announce that it was Nelly’s time to go, with her joking: “I’m not going anywhere!” following her elimination.

Nelly took the bad news in her usual good spirit, saying: “In each of your hearts is a piece of Nelly, and you’re never going to forget me.”

But fans on X (formerly Twitter) were devastated with many expressing how much they’d miss her from the show.

One viewer wrote: “Oh Nelly! I will miss you. You are a wonderful baker & you made me smile every week. Thank you.”

While another added: “No Bake Off contestant has ever deserved their own show more than Nelly! She is already a national treasure.”

A third wrote: “Nooo not Nelly! Noel was all of us in that moment, choked up and distraught. We’re going to miss you, Nelly! It was an absolute pleasure to watch you bake.”

For the Signature Challenge, the bakers were tasked with making an Autumnal Pie.

Christian impressed the judges with his perfect pastry but Georgie caused Paul to need a glass of water with her spice level.

The Technical Challenge saw the bakers making Vegan Parkin, something that stumped most of the contestants.

Though Gill, from Lancashire, was familiar with Parkin, her bake came in last, with Paul joking that it could: “Hold a door open.”

Meanwhile, Illiyin came in first, with Prue commenting that she had done: “Everything right.”

In the end, it all came down to the Autumnal Festival Cake Showstopper, with Sumayah getting her ‘Hollywood handshake’ and Paul declaring her bake: “One of the best cakes I’ve had in a long time.”

During the baking, things looked bad for Dylan, who dropped his cake and had to start again. When it came to the judging, although his cake looked bad on the outside, Paul did compliment its flavours.

Sadly, Nelly’s cake suffered from being ‘overcomplicated,’ with Prue remarking it had too much going on for the flavours to be distinct.

In her farewell letter on X, Nelly wrote: “Waw. What a rollercoaster it was?

“Did you enjoy it? Because I did!! Thank you for all love and support.p.s. this is not end, only beginning. I will be back.”

The Great British Bake Off and its spin-off Bake Off: An Extra Slice both air on Channel 4 in the UK. In the US, it’s known as The Great British Baking Show, and streams on Netflix.
