Liam Payne Producer Says He Will Hold Off Releasing Posthumous Single Until He Gets Family’s Blessing

Liam Payne producer Sam Pounds announced on Tuesday he will delay plans to release a posthumous single from the late singer, leaving the decision “to all family members.”

Pounds initially announced the release of “Do No Wrong” on Oct. 26, scheduled for Nov. 1, which would have been less than three weeks after Payne died when he jumped from a hotel balcony in Argentina. The producer returned to social media on Tuesday to say he had decided to hold off on the release “and leave those liberties up to all family members.”

“I want all proceeds go [sic] to a charity of [the family’s] choosing (or however they desire),” he continued. “Even though we all love the song it’s not the time yet. We are all still mourning the passing of Liam and I want the family to morn [sic] in peace and in prayer. We will all wait.”

In a since-deleted post about the song on social media on Monday, Pounds wrote, “I pray that this will be a blessing to the world like Liam has always dreamed. I pray angels will comfort you all every day while listening.”

Pounds had also added that he hoped the song would be “a blessing to Ruth, Bear and the entire family,” referencing Payne’s sister, Ruth, and his son, Bear.

Payne died from trauma and internal and external bleeding, according to an autopsy performed in the Argentine capital. The Buenos Aires police told The Associated Press in a statement that his fall resulted in “extremely serious injuries.” Medics confirmed his death on the spot, and an initial autopsy report showed he had cocaine in his system. The singer’s former One Direction bandmates mourned Payne in the days following his death, with Zayn Malik postponing the U.S. leg of his tour.

“We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing,” a group statement read at the time. “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
