BioWare, the Electronic Arts Inc. studio best known for making complex roleplaying games, has struggled to find a hit in recent years. It will look to reverse that trend with Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the fourth entry in the fantasy series, which comes out on Thursday.
The stakes are high for this new Dragon Age, which was rebooted twice during a turbulent development process. BioWare’s last two games, 2017’s Mass Effect: Andromeda and 2019’s Anthem, were both critically panned. Fans and pundits have worried that if Dragon Age: The Veilguard fails to deliver, the results may signal the end for the Edmonton, Alberta-based game studio.
