Sir Keir Starmer has said that news organisations will be paid for allowing AI to use their work, as he promises “balance” in an emerging battle between big tech and the media.

The prime minister acknowledged that the emerging power of artificial intelligence could “chip away” at press freedom as he promised to defend journalism from the threat of technology giants.
