Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans embroiled in controversy over ‘vulgar’ joke

Must read

Strictly Come Dancing’s Wynne Evans has found himself in hot water after allegedly making an unsavoury joke whilst being prepared for the glitz and glamour of the dance floor.

Insiders claim that the opera sensation likened his double chin to female anatomy with a saucy jest, which is said to have been made prior to the star-studded launch of the BBC ballroom extravaganza.

An insider remarked: “It was a bit of a vulgar dad joke.”

Whilst there were no formal objections lodged, it’s noted that not all team members were amused. The insider continued: “Wynne clearly didn’t mean any offence, but you have to be a little bit careful these days.”

A pal of Wynne’s stated that the comic remark was a slice of self-deprecation, shared confidentially with a makeup artist while others were present. Moreover, they maintain that the makeup professional took no issue with the comment.

Express Online have contacted the BBC and Wynne’s representatives for comment.

This incident comes on the heels of public furor over Wynne’s physical interaction with his dance partner Katya Jones weeks later. Wynne faced accusations of ungentlemanly hand placement along her waistline, which she promptly brushed aside an act caught on video that stirred social media discussion suggesting discomfort, though both sides assert it was in light-hearted spirit, reports the Mirror.

A secondary snippet revealed Wynne’s failed attempt at a high-five with Katya, which went unnoticed. Yet, Katya leapt to the defence of the family man, stating: “The hand incident was a very silly inside joke between Wynne and I. So even the idea that it made me feel uncomfortable or offended in any way is complete nonsense. It’s actually absurd.”

“So let’s focus on how brilliantly Wynne Evans is doing and what an amazing dancer he’s becoming.”

Wynne, known for his flamboyant tenor role in the Go Compare adverts, shared on X that they were “really amazing friends”, describing their high-five as a “running joke” between them.

Ahead of this week’s Halloween-themed show, he stated that he and Katya would maintain their “slapstick” approach to keep the audience entertained.

Wynne declared: “I promise we will always be fun we want to be fun for all the family. We want to bring a bit of slapstick comedy, and fun for the kids.”

He expressed his excitement about dressing up, something he had never done before. Katya chimed in: “Well, you will for Strictly Halloween! We get to do some great fancy dress. This year might be my favourite.”
