A national food retailer looks set to open a new store in Hemlington.

Heron Foods has submitted a licensing application for 3 The Viewley Centre, the former McColls store, in order to sell alcohol from the site. The chain – which has stores across Middlesbrough including in Acklam, Ormesby, Linthorpe and the town centre – wants to sell booze between 7am and 10pm Monday to Saturday and between 8am and 8pm on Sunday.

The application, which was submitted to Middlesbrough Council on May 13, comes as several job applications for the potential shop are published online. Roles include a part-time sales assistant, a senior part-time sales assistant, and a permanent duty manager.

The website states that benefits of working at Heron Foods include a 10% discount at both Heron Foods and B&M stores, ongoing learning and career progression opportunities, 24/7 online access to a GP for you and your family, 30 days annual leave, rewards for long service, work anniversaries, and more.

It also notes that the chain “might close this vacancy sooner than you think” – although the current opening date for the potential store is yet to be revealed.

In the licensing application, the chain states that to prevent crime and disorder, a CCTV system will be operational at all times when licensable activities are being carried out and whenever members of the public are on the site. It will have “sufficient storage, retention and capacity for a minimum of 28 days continuous footage which will be of good quality.”
