Samsung says it still won’t make the cheaper Galaxy Z Fold everyone wants

Must read

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup may be behind the curve, but the company still puts out an excellent foldable phone. Yet, Samsung has confirmed yet again that it has no plans to make a Galaxy Z Fold device with a more affordable price tag.

Following the launch of its region-limited Galaxy Z Fold “Special Edition,” Samsung confirmed to SisaJournal that the company has no plans to make a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold.

Rather than thinking of [Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition] as a premium product, it’s a product released to expand your options. You can choose according to your taste. As of now, we have no plans to release a separate product with a lower price.

Over the past several generations, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold flagship has gone up and down in price, sticking at $1,799 for a few generations before jumping up to $1,899 on the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Price, though, has long been considered a barrier to actually getting people to buy these devices. In July, Samsung told us that most of its foldable customers are coming from previous generations, rather than being new to the form factor. That’s also as Samsung continues to struggle with meager growth with each passing generation.

The Galaxy Z Fold “Special Edition,” notably, is more expensive compared to the standard Fold 6, coming in at 2,789,600 won to the Fold 6’s 2,388,100 won, a price difference of around $300 USD.

A more affordable foldable seems crucial to growth for Samsung’s book-style foldable – especially considering the Galaxy Z Flip saw rapid growth after settling on a price under $1,000 – but it’s unclear why Samsung continues to avoid the solution.
