Call Of Duty 2025 has already leaked and it’s a sequel to a very old game

Details around the next Call Of Duty game after Black Ops 6 have emerged, which will return the series to a near future setting.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 is still a week away from launch, but it seems like we already know what’s in store for the next game in the series.

Practically every instalment in Activision’s juggernaut shooter has leaked months (and sometimes years) prior to its official announcement, with the 90s Gulf War setting for this year’s entry being outed in November last year.

The setting has now seemingly leaked for 2025’s Call Of Duty and, surprisingly, it’s another Black Ops game.

According to Insider Gaming, which has corroborated leaked information from a focus group meeting via Fumo Leaks, the next Call Of Duty game will be a direct sequel to 2012’s Black Ops 2, set five years later in 2030 (although the original leak claims 2035).

Protagonists from Black Ops 2 are set to return, including David Mason, in what’s described as an espionage-themed story.

It’s claimed the game will launch with remastered Black Ops 2 maps along with some new ones, and will bring back the Gunfight multiplayer mode.

Some features from Black Ops 6 will also apparently return, namely the ‘meat shield’ mechanic, which allows you to take hostages in multiplayer, along with the omni-movement system – only this time with an added wall jump.

On the Zombies front, Call Of Duty 2025 will continue the round-based version of the mode, on what’s described by Fumo Leaks as ‘one of the biggest maps ever’ featuring a transportation system similar to TranZit from Black Ops 2.

According to the leak, the next game will also introduce an eight-player mode for Zombies, which might be linked to some sort of classic mode, where you start with only a pistol and have to find other weapons scattered in boxes around the map.

There’s no specific mention of who is developing Call Of Duty 2025 but it’s expected to be Sledgehammer Games. With developer Treyarch handling this year’s entry alongside Raven Software, and Infinity Ward reportedly underway on the next Modern Warfare game, that only leaves Sledgehammer, who last helmed 2023’s Modern Warfare 3.

While two Black Ops games in two years might be surprising, Call Of Duty has been mining nostalgia for past entries recently with its reboots of the Modern Warfare games. Black Ops 2 is also widely regarded as one of the best games in the series by fans, so it makes sense to reconnect with that game’s history.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see how Black Ops 6 shakes out, which is set to launch across PlayStation, Xbox, PC, and Xbox Game Pass, on October 25, 2024.
