Strictly Come Dancing contestants Wynne Evans and Katya Jones have insisted that an awkward moment in which the camera caught his unwanted hand creeping across her waist was the result of “silly jokes they had planned”.
Viewers expressed concern after Jones brushed his hand away while maintaining her smile for the camera during a live segment of the programme on Saturday night. Evans, 52, is an opera singer known for his advertisements for the insurance company Go.Compare, and Jones, 35, is his professional dancing partner.
The couple later issued an apology in a short video clip posted on Instagram which prompted further commentary because Jones did most of the apologising.
