What did you miss?
Miranda Hart has revealed she has found love and secretly got married.
The Miranda star appeared on The One Show where she said that she has got married at the age of 51. The comedian and sitcom star has returned to the public eye after several years which she confessed she had mostly spent “in bed with chronic illness.”
But she also had happy news as she moved her ring to her wedding finger live on the sofa as she told hosts Alex Jones and Alex Scott that she is now married.
What, how, and why?
Hart said: “Well, I can now swap this ring to the other side and say ‘someone put a ring on it.’ I’m married. I got married at 51 and it’s just so lovely.
“I’d written Gary for on screen Miranda, and it wasn’t until I was 49 that I met my person and I met him. And it’s a little undercurrent in the book. I’m not going to reveal how we met because that’s a little bit of a twist. But he’s my best friend. We have the best fun, and I’m just thrilled to be a young bride at 51.”
Hart’s new book I Haven’t Been Entirely Honest with You details her time living housebound with chronic illness. She said: “I really hope people read it and and see what they can get from all that I discovered and learned. But I suppose hope I mean, the fact that I met someone during a pandemic during chronic illness, I couldn’t get out of bed or get out of the house and I really, really wanted to meet someone. I didn’t want to do life on my own anymore. And I kind of admitted that to myself.
“And I tell that story in the book. The fact that I could meet somebody is not a sort of rom-com story, but it’s hope, and that’s what I think. There is just whatever situation you’re in that there is always hope things really do change. So that’s the kind of link to the love story.”
Hart – whose hit sitcom Miranda, co-starring Sarah Hadland, Tom Ellis and Patricia Hodge ended in 2015 – revealed she is now “keen to get back to some silliness.”
She went on: “I miss the studio floor. I miss laughter. And so I don’t know, I don’t have any ideas yet. They haven’t sort of percolated through, but yeah, I miss fooling around.”
At the start of the interview Hart shrugged off an awkward moment when host Jones accidentally introduced her as “Amanda Hart”.
Jones quickly corrected herself and Hart quipped: “Alan?” Jones said: “It’s love. You know what, it’s been so long we have missed you so much.” Hart joked: “Have you forgotten now?”
