Hereford’s Chris McCausland receives ANOTHER standing ovation

Must read

McCausland, the show’s first blind contestant, landed a score of 30 after his dance with partner Dianne Buswell to Wayne’s World.

The audience gave the comic, who previously studied at Hereford’s Royal National College for the Blind, a standing ovation, with celebrities like Joe Sugg and Marvin and Rochelle Humes among the crowd.

The judges were quick to have their word on the performance.

Head judge Craig Revel-Horwood described their jive as “packed full of fantastic rhythm.”

This week on Strictly is movie week, with celebrities taking to the stage dressed as their favourite film characters.

McCausland and Buswell chose Wayne’s World, which McCausland said he saw in the 1990s before he lost his sight.

In his rehearsals, he said about his third dance of the series, the jive: “It’s so fast and it doesn’t stop! You’ve got to make your body move in ways it doesn’t normally.”

The comedian recently revealed in a recent video on Instagram that he was “very emotional” and was “so overwhelmed with relief and emotion” at the end of his first ever Strictly performance.

He told host Claudia Winkleman that he did not think he was allowed to say how his nerves were pre-watershed and that he had his waterproof underwear on.

The 47-year-old comedian, originally from Liverpool, lost his eyesight in his early 20s as a result of retinitis pigmentosa, a hereditary condition. This diagnosis prompted a career change from his previous job in web development to become a comedian.

McCausland studied at the Royal National College for the Blind in the mid 90s, and even returned in 2022 to mark its 105th anniversary with a show at the Courtyard in Hereford.

He is known to television audiences for his role as Rudi in the CBeebies show Me Too, and regularly appears at comedy venues around the UK, including the Comedy Store.
