Tech giant Google has decided to expand the availability of Gemini Live to all Android users. Gemini Live, a two-way voice feature for the Gemini AI chatbot, was previously available to only Gemini Advanced users with a Google One AI Premium subscription. This expansion will allow all Android users to engage in voice conversations with the AI.
Notably, only the basic version will be available in the free tier, meaning users won’t have the luxury of 10 different voices offered in the paid version.
Android users with the Gemini app will be able to see a waveform icon at the bottom right of the screen, next to the microphone and camera icons. To use the two-way communication, users need to tap on the icon, which will activate Gemini Live.
Resembling a phone call interface, the full screen includes hold and end buttons, as well as a sound wave pattern. To use the AI, users can press the hold button and ask questions or change the direction of the conversation.
In other developments related to Google Gemini: Google Gemini launched two new tools for Android that were highlighted earlier at Google I/O this year. The feature known as ‘Ask about this screen,” helps users ask queries about whatever is occurring on the screen. Another feature called ‘Ask about this video’ is also compatible with YouTube. The prompt pops up on top of the Gemini window after the user has commanded the AI assistant.
Once the user clicks on this tab a provisional screenshot is taken and then the user can type and ask their query. While the bot’s early reaction is based on the screenshot features, the user can then direct Gemini to use the internet connectivity for more information or even recapitulate a news article.
