Shakira walks off stage after spotting audience member filming up her dress

Shakira has been spotted walking off stage after reportedly seeing an audience member filming up her dress.

The incident took place as the ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer appeared at a star-studded Miami club, also attended by Anitta, Danna Paola, model Winnie Harlow and actor Lele Pons. During the event, the singer was walking and dancing on an elevated platform, surrounded by fans as she celebrated the launch of her new single ‘Soltera’.

However, in a new clip of her which has gone viral, she is seen adjusting her dress before seemingly warning members of the audience and eventually walking off stage.

According to various reports by LadBible, DailyMail, Yahoo and more, the departure from the stage comes as she noticed people in the crowd attempting to film up her dress. Already, one short clip of the moment has gathered over 34million views on Twitter/X, and started a debate online.

In the footage, Anitta is seen on the side of the stage as Shakira leaves the platform, asking the Columbian singer if she is OK.

“That’s truly disappointing behaviour. Artists deserve respect and privacy, both on and off stage. It’s crucial to ensure a safe environment for everyone,” one user wrote.

Another agreed, sharing: “That’s just beyond gross. Shakira had every right to walk off, no one should have to deal with that kind of disrespect, especially when she’s just out there performing her music. People need to learn how to act with basic decency!”

Others, however, highlighted how the footage doesn’t actually show anyone attempting to film under her dress, and suggested that a misunderstanding may have arisen because she was on an elevated platform.

“They’re just recording her performing. They will do the exact same thing if she were wearing a space suit,” one wrote. Another shared: “What are you talking about? There were just a whole bunch of people filming her. Maybe she realised they were below her so… Doesn’t mean they were actually trying to film under her dress.”

The reports come following recent news that the singer had settled her $15million Spanish tax fraud case “to protect” her children, “to be by their side” and “get on with her life”.

She addressed her legal battle with Spanish authorities, who accused her of tax evasion between 2012 and 2014 when she was allegedly a resident of the country. The singer denied any wrongdoing, explaining that she agreed to settle to protect her two young sons, 11-year-old Milan and 9-year-old Sasha.

She was hit with the first set of allegations back in 2021 when Barcelona prosecutors claimed Shakira should have been paying taxes as she was living in Spain for a substantial period between 2012 and 2014. The second wave of allegations came in September 2023. The Columbian pop icon was again charged with tax evasion in Spain – this time, the prosecutors claimed she had failed to pay €6.7million (£5.8 million) in tax on her income in 2018.

Last November, Shakira came to an agreement with the Spanish authorities after agreeing to pay the resounding debt to avoid potential prison time.

Since then, she has released her twelfth studio album, ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’. In a four-star review, NME said: “With a career that spans four decades, she continues to push the envelope for Latin pop music and make the genre a global event […] With this vulnerable yet versatile collection, Shakira shows there are no limits to the art of her catharsis through song.”
