The biggest gainers of the session on the were Fresnillo PLC (LON:), which rose 5.67% or 30.50 points to trade at 568.00 at the close. Entain PLC (LON:) added 2.86% or 20.40 points to end at 734.60 and Smurfit WestRock PLC (LON:) was up 2.84% or 96.00 points to 3,472.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included J Sainsbury PLC (LON:), which lost 2.03% or 6.00 points to trade at 289.80 in late trade. Diageo PLC (LON:) declined 1.44% or 36.00 points to end at 2,470.00 and Tesco PLC (LON:) shed 1.22% or 4.50 points to 364.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1216 to 522 and 731 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.22% or 31.60 to $2,612.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.45% or 0.31 to hit $69.28 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.43% or 0.31 to trade at $72.28 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.07% to 1.31, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.02% to 0.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 101.04.
