Dave Grohl has denied that a viral online post has anything to do with the actual identity of his baby daughter.
After Grohl, 55, confessed to fathering a child outside his 21-year marriage to Jordyn Blum on Saturday, a social media user went viral for sharing a photo of a baby on Instagram that she claimed was the rocker’s newborn daughter, calling her Roxie Junie Grohl.
The user, who identified herself as the baby’s mother and used the name Valerie Greyston, alleged in a since-deleted post that Grohl had been ‘by (her) side through the entire pregnancy.’
‘My sweet Roxie Junie Grohl, being your mama has already been the most incredible experience of my life,’ the caption read.
‘Every day, I fall more in love with you and this new role. Your daddy was by my side through the entire pregnancy, making sure we were both taken care of, and I’m so grateful for his love and support.’
The caption also read: ‘I’m new to this whole baby mama thing, but I promise to always do my best for you. As much as I want to share my joy with the world, I also need to protect our privacy right now. I’m happy that everyone knows about you, though, because you are such a special part of my life.’
The post claimed the baby is a ‘Grohl through and through.’
The user also used the hashtags #davegrohl and #my20thbirthdaygift at the end of the caption.
After the post began circulating online, a representative for Grohl confirmed to Metro.co.uk that the post was fake and the child featured in the photo was not the rocker’s.
The news comes after the Foo Fighters star issued a bombshell statement in which he confessed to cheating on his wife and welcoming a secret child with another woman.
Taking to Instagram, the musician, 55, began: ‘I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside my marriage.’
He continued: ‘I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.
‘I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.’
He concluded: ‘We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.’
Grohl has been married to TV producer Jordyn Blum, 48, since 2003, and they have three daughters: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 10, who all seemingly deleted their social media accounts in the wake of the news.
Fans were shocked by the news of Grohl’s infidelity, with many agreeing that he was the last rock star they suspected of this kind of behaviour.
X user @_graciemckenna wrote: ‘Out of every rock band frontman you’d expect to cheat on their wives and have a baby outside their marriage…dave grohl is at the bottom of everyone’s list😭not his teenage daughters deactivating their socials too.’
@sweetlouiex posted: ‘Dave Grohl being a cheater and having a whole baby outside of his marriage while his own children are teenagers is VERY disappointing.’
Many fans also had a problem with the way Grohl announced the news, noting that the phrasing of the post was so passive it barely put any blame at all on Grohl.
@Fantasy_Giant wrote: ‘Oh man Dave Grohl was trending and I thought he died, but it turns out he just announced to the world that he cheated on his wife and is having a baby with the mistress and he did it like it was a police department memo to the public justifying the actions of their officers…’
@DanInPittsburgh posted: ‘Dave Grohl is having a child out of wedlock and announced it like a football team firing its coach lol’
@outpaigeous agreed:’”I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” I’m crying, why is Dave Grohl using the passive voice, wow I hate when I simply become the father of a new baby daughter born outside of my marriage…’
While it remains unclear how publicly the drama within Grohl’s expanding family will play out, everyone can agree that this was not on their 2024 bingo card.
