The supermarket giant announced its largest ever annual investment package during its recent trading update, aimed at accelerating its growth across Britain’s towns and cities.

The company reported a surge in sales and profits last year and disclosed plans to invest £800 million to boost its UK expansion – marking the chain’s most substantial annual investment to date. Aldi intends to open 23 new stores by the end of the year, including in Muswell Hill, London and Mere Green, Birmingham, as part of a record £800m investment programme for 2024.

Currently boasting over 1,000 stores, Aldi has previously stated its goal to expand to 1,500 outlets across the UK, indicating that it is actively seeking additional locations nationwide.

The supermarket giant Aldi has declared that it is on the hunt for town-centre, edge-of-centre, or retail park sites ready for property development. They are after locations capable of hosting a 20,000 square foot store complete with approximately 100 parking spaces.

The ideal sites would be adjacent to main roads featuring prominent visibility and easy access. Aldi UK’s Communications Director Richard Thornton conveyed: “We are committed to bringing high quality, affordable groceries to millions more British families.”

He further emphasised the expansion drive, stating: “With more than 1,000 stores across the country, our footprint is definitely growing, but we know there are still a number of towns that either don’t have an Aldi or have shown demand for more stores.”
