The wrestling magnate’s recognisable voice opens up the clip.
‘People wonder who I really am. There’s a portrayal of me that I’m a bad guy – but no one really knows me.’
Legends of the golden era of wrestling, including The Rock, John Cena, Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin, then recall memories of McMahon over clips of the businessman drinking lager in the ring and dancing on stage during old shows.
The teaser then races through a quick biography of the 79-year-old starting with his acquisition of the company and ending in the present day, via some of the high points of Wrestlemania and the nadirs of various scandals including alleged steroid use among wrestlers, and a lawsuit which led to his stepping aside from his role.
The streaming service announced the series last week alongside an official poster, writing that the series is ‘chronicling the rise and fall of the WWE’s controversial founder’.
Mr. McMahon is produced by Tiger King producer Chris Smith and Bill Simmons.
The show includes interviews with ‘McMahon before his resignation, his family, and some of the most iconic names in wrestling history. As well as the journalists who uncovered McMahon’s allegations’.
While in charge, McMahon took the promotion to new heights. Part of his expansion included acquiring rivals ECW and WCW in the early 2000s.
The charismatic character would go on to play an important role behind the scenes while regularly appearing in front of the camera before stepping down as the CEO of WWE in 2022.
