Nvidia subpoenaed in US competition inquiry

Nvidia Corporation has been subpoenaed by the US Department of Justice amid an antitrust investigation into the chipmaker.

The artificial intelligence computing provider has received a subpoena as antitrust officials seek evidence that it violated competition laws.

The action means Nvidia is legally obliged to hand over requested information. Other unnamed companies have also received subpoenas, according to Bloomberg.

Looming competition investigation puts brakes on Nvidia

Antitrust officials are understood to be concerned that Nvidia is making it harder to switch to other chip manufacturers and penalises buyers who do not exclusively use its chips.

The move comes after Nvidia’s shares fell 9.5 per cent to $108 on Tuesday as investors softened their optimism about AI. The shares fell a further 2.3 per cent
