Sir Elton John has been flooded with well-wishes after speaking about his health issues.

Taking to Instagram, the musician informed fans that he’s recovering slowly from a severe infection, which has left him with limited sight in one eye.

‘Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that has unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye,’ he began.

‘I am healing but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.’

The 77-year-old continued: ‘I am grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.

‘I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.’

Last year, Elton was rushed to hospital after suffering a fall at his Nice villa.

In 2021, the pioneering songwriter underwent hip surgery, which resulted in him having to reschedule a few shows on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Shortly after the procedure, he was welcomed to Windsor Castle for the investiture ceremony marking his appointment as a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour by then-Prince Charles.

Speaking at the ceremony, where he walked with the support of a stick, he said: ‘I may not look as if I’m 100% fit – I’m not quite – but I’m still raring to go and I’ve got a lot more work to do as far as my life goes.’

The celebrated artist performed his final concert date on 8 July 2023 in Stockholm after more than 50 years of performing. The Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour was 49 dates long, and was his goodbye to fans, as he vowed to retire from live shows.

He decided to step away to spend more time with his family – Elton shares sons, Zachary and Elijah, with husband David Furnish.

However, while the chance to purchase tickets to see Sir Elton live may be gone, supporters will reportedly still get to enjoy new music as longtime collaborator Bernie Taupin said a new album was ‘coming out very soon’ while speaking in May.

‘I daren’t say anything about it because I’m under strict orders to keep schtum,’ he added (via Music News).

A recent survey revealed that Eurovision stans are also hoping Sir Elton may pick up the microphone and represent the UK – it’s nice to have dreams!

In terms of confirmed projects, Sir Elton has recently been promoting an upcoming documentary called Elton John: Never Too Late!, which will provide an insight into his career. It will be released on December 13 through Disney Plus.
