Must read

Sir Elton John issued a statement today as the Rocket Man hitmaker revealed he has been left with limited vision in a candid health update. The singer took to Instagram and revealed he is “recovering slowly” as he opened up about his recent health woes.

The 77 year old confirmed that he suffered from a severe eye infection over the summer months. The painful illness has meant that he has been left with “limited vision” in one of his eyes.

He told his 4.2 million followers: “Over the summer, I’ve been dealing with a severe eye infection that unfortunately left me with only limited vision in one eye. I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.

“I am so grateful for the excellent team of doctors and nurses and my family, who have taken such good care of me over the last several weeks.

“I have been quietly spending the summer recuperating at home, and am feeling positive about the progress I have made in my healing and recovery thus far.”

He was swiftly inundated with messages as celebrity pals and fans alike flocked to the comment section to offer their well wishes to the musician.

Donatella Versace penned: “Sending you so much love Elton! Feel better soon. Love you.”

Strictly’s Layton Williams shared three heart emojis.

“Feel better Sir Elton. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. Prayers,” a fan offered.

“Take all the time you need my friend; heal up, rest up,” stated another user.

As someone else shared: “Awww get well soon Elton!!! Sending you lots of love and positive energy you’ve got this.”

Another fan added: “Oh no, didn’t expect to read this! Hope you are recovering well and sending healing thoughts to you, Sir.”

Last year, Elton was rushed to hospital after suffering a fall at his Nice villa.

In 2021, the songwriter underwent hip surgery, which resulted in him having to reschedule a few shows on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Shortly after the procedure, he was welcomed to Windsor Castle for the investiture ceremony marking his appointment as a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour by then-Prince Charles.

Speaking at the ceremony, where he walked with the support of a stick, he said: “I may not look as if I’m 100 per cent fit – I’m not quite – but I’m still raring to go and I’ve got a lot more work to do as far as my life goes.”

He performed his final concert date on 8 July 2023 in Stockholm after more than 50 years of performing.

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour was 49 dates long, and was his goodbye to fans, as he vowed to retire from live shows, opting to spend more time with his husband David Furnish and their sons Zachary and Elijah.
