Suffolk’s daredevil centenarian completes charity skydive

The 102-year-old Second World War veteran, Manette Baillie, completed her first parachute jump from Beccles Airfield on Sunday.

Ms Baillie jumped from the plane in celebration of her 102nd birthday, and to raise money for Benhall’s village hall, the Motor Neurone Disease Association and East Anglian Air Ambulance.

So far, the daredevil has raised more than £10,000 of her £30,000 target.

Ms Baillie now lives in Benhall, and served in the Women’s Royal Naval Service during the Second World War, eventually marrying a paratrooper.

Ms Baillie said ahead of the jump that you must always look for something new. After completing the feat she said: “I must admit I shut my eyes very firmly.

“I just want other people who are getting towards 80 and 90 not to give up anything. Just keep going.”
