Ed Sheeran’s concerts often leave fans in awe, and last night he left them with their jaws on the floor after he was joined by none other than Chris Hemsworth.

The English singer-songwriter, 33, is currently touring Europe as part of his Mathematics Tour 2024, and while performing in Romania on Saturday night, he treated fans to an unexpected guest.

Performing to an estimated 70,000 fans at Romania’s National Arena, the four-time Grammy winner was in the middle of playing his 2014 song Thinking Out Loud when he made a surprise announcement.

‘He’s been on stage playing with us for the whole time, playing in time,’ Ed grinned. ‘Will you make some noise for Chris Hemsworth!’

The crowd immediately erupted into cheers and the Thor actor smiled fondly and continued on with the show.

Once the song was finished, Ed asked the crowd once more to ‘make some noise’ for the actor, who then joined his friend centre stage to take it all in.

A clip of the moment was shared to Ed’s Instagram account and shows what happened after the show, with the singer telling a nervous looking Chris, 40, that he ‘did really well’.

He then presented his long-time friend with a participation award, telling him, ‘One for the man cave.’

The Australian star smiled as he declared it a ‘sick’ award and burst into laughter when Ed read out the plaque, which noted it was for ‘drumming excellence’.

‘That’s awesome’, the star told the Shape of You singer.

Fans quickly took to the comment section to share their excitement over Chris’ performance, with dremab71 writing: ‘Wow epic!! Looks incredible and sounds like he nailed it 🔥🙌’

teddysphotos_uk commented: ‘Go Chris goooooooo!!!⚡️ He was wonderful!! I think he deserves a permanent spot in the band🔥😍’

While another, mirunamusic was distraught they had missed the special moment: ‘CHRIS PLAYING DRUMS IN BUCHAREST AND IT’S THE ONE SHOW I MISS WHAT TFFFFFF’

Elsewhere, one fan suggested the collaboration needs to be repaid now. Rrrpm24 wrote: ‘ok Ed now it’s your turn.. try something new to backup Chris in some way lol .. wish I could have seen it better it was #MARVELous ❤️’

Chris’ performance may have come as a complete surprise to fans, but it was revealed in the short behind-the-scenes clip that the actor had been learning the drums since December for this exact moment.

And it seems they may have hinted at the collaboration last year when they shared some snaps of them jamming together.

The star, who is currently working on season two of his Disney Plus documentary series, Limitless With Chris Hemsworth, reached out to Ed after learning music, or more specifically, learning an instrument can help with cognitive function.

Chris’ documentary series follows the actor as he works with world-class experts, family, and friends and pushes himself to new limits, trying to outrun the side effects of old age.

In season one of the show, the father of three discovered that he carries two copies of the APOE4 gene after undergoing genetic testing

The gene can be a marker for developing Alzheimer’s disease in the future, however, it is not a diagnosis.

Alzheimer’s disease is where the brain function deteriorates as cells shrink and die, impacting someone’s memory, thinking, behaviours and social skills.

Since receiving the news, Chris has worked hard on his brain health and his performance with Ed is just another way of doing so.
