A state of emergency was declared in the Voronezh region of Russia after akamikaze drone strike caused a major blaze at an ammunitions warehouse.
There were several explosions and huge flames for hours after the Ukraine hit in Ostrogozhsk overnight.
At least 200 people were evacuated and two people were injured, one seriously, in the district.
Regional governor Aleksandr Gusev acknowledged there was a ‘detonation of explosive objects’ and claimed the ignition came from the falling debris from a drone.
Russian channels, meanwhile, confirmed that an ammunition warehouse had been struck.
Ukrainian forces are engaged in a long-term campaign of drone strikes aimed at damaging Russia’s military infrastructure and oil industry.
Earlier this week, drones hit ammunition supplies at Marinovka military airfield in the Volgograd region.
Separately, a Ro-Ro ferry Conro Trader, loaded with oil, was struck in Port Kavkaz.
And Russian firefighters in the the southern Rostov region are struggling to put out a fire at the Proletarsk diesel depot started by a Ukrainian drone six days ago.
The facility is used to supply diesel to Russia’s military vehicles.
‘The fire has spread to residential buildings,’ said the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
Videos show the blaze near a railway with moving tanker wagons amid fears it could lead to further explosions.
Dozens of firefighters have been injured in the blaze, and residents in Rostov region have complained of noxious fumes.
The drone attacks come weeks after Ukraine made a surprise incursion into the Russian region of Kurst.
It’s the biggest into Russia by a foreign power since World War Two and saw thousands of Ukrainian troops push through Russia’s western border on August 6.
They have since captured hundreds of Russian troops, as Vladimir Putin refuses to pull soldiers away from the frontlines and sent poorly trained conscripts to defend the area.
Ukraine hopes to exchange them for soldiers held by Russia.
Earlier this week Ukrainian forces damaged and destroyed all three of the bridges over the region’s Seim River.
