The body of a 48-year-old British tourist who went missing on the Greek island of Rhodes has been found on a beach.

The man was last seen two days ago after he went swimming with his niece on Theologos Beach in the north of the island, local media has reported.

However the search ended in tragedy this morning after his body was reportedly found by a passerby on the beach of Paradisos.

Local media reported that his niece left the beach, and called the police when he hadn’t been heard from in several hours and was missing from the beach.

Police officers had been coordinating with the coast guard, as well as boat owners in the area, to investigate the disappearance.

Greece has seen a string of disappearances this summer, including that of Mail columnist Dr. Michael Mosley

Investigating authorities found the body of Dr Mosley, one of Britain’s most famous doctors who popularised the 5:2 diet, in June, after a days-long search in the searing heat on the Greek holiday island of Symi.

The body was discovered in a rocky area beside Agia Marina after an extensive search operation led by emergency workers, around 30 minutes walk from the village of Pedi where the Mail columnist, 67, was last seen.

Days after Dr Mosley’s body was found, Greek authorities tried desperately to search for three missing tourists during a brutal heatwave that killed at least five people at the time.

Former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy Albert Calibet, 59, was last seen hiking alone in very hot conditions on Amorgos. Meanwhile, the two French nationals – aged 73 and 64 – are missing on the secluded island of Sikinos.
